An Arabian experience with Etihad Airways

Image
The journey over to Abu Dhabi was without a doubt the most comfortable 14 hours ever spent on a plane, luckily it was on a fully flat bed with fantastic food and entertainment onboard Etihad Airways.
Arriving in Abu Dhabi early in the morning and straight to the Shangri La. The Shangri La is an impressive resort property with an infinity pool looking over to the fabulous Shiekh Zayed Grand Mosque. The resort is tastefully decorated in an Arabian style, with a real sense of calm and serenity as well as having one of the most impressive breakfast buffets!
While in Abu Dhabi a visit to the mosque is necessary as well as the high adrenaline Ferrari World, a great place for families. Abu Dhabi also has some incredible plans and in the coming years will host a Louvre and a Guggenheim for the art lovers as well as more world class hotels and restaurants. Globetrotter Staff turn up for long weekend

On Sat 30 October Alan Joyce announced the grounding of the entire Qantas fleet. His motive was in reponse to industrial action taken by the unions.

Within an hour of the news breaking on Saturday at 3:00pm, Globetrotter Operations staff worked tirelessly until 10:30pm. Without any information on what was happening other than knowing that Qantas would be grounded potentially for 2 days, our Corporate Travel Managers all got stuck in answering phones, queue dumping bookings, calling clients to re-accommodate them. This continued into Sunday which saw more volunteers give up their sunny Sunday afternoon offering assistance.

The Operations staff worked on rebooking over 500 travellers over the course of the weekend. What a great team effort and highlights some of the Globetrotter values of teamwork, reliability , excellence, fun and care.

We would love to hear your comments at marketing@globetrotter.com.au on how you were affected by the disruption and how Globetrotter managed to assist.

Further updates on the Qantas disruption will be available through our travel alerts or from our Twitter account globetrotterCT.

ImageGlobetrotter’s Rory Wilson took to the streets of Melbourne on 18 October with The Big Issue vendor Mac. During Anti-Poverty Week (Oct 17-21, 2011) The Big Issue invited CEOs to turn on their ‘out of office’ for a few hours and try their hand at selling The Big Issue magazine on the streets.

Originally from NZ, Mac has worked for The Big Issue since 2010. Until recently he has been sleeping rough but is now housed and seeing a counsellor to help overcome his gambling addiction which developed after a relationship breakdown.

CEO Ray Bushnell from Western Plant Hire speaks out about sleeping out !

ImageImageThe CEO sleep out was a great success with WA raising $615,000. During the night we lived as the homeless would, having only soup and a bread roll for dinner, and sleeping out in the elements in a urban environment. During the night we watched presentations from many current homeless people, and people that had overcome homelessness with the support of this great cause.

On Saturday almost 1000 travel agents and suppliers gathered for the annual National Travel Industry Awards, held at the Sydney Westin Hotel.

The eagerly anticipated night of nights saw the industry celebrate top achievers in a range of categories, with huge interest in the winners announced by MC Jules Lund.

It was a great occasion to celebrate after a year in which travel agents have truly proved their worth to the travelling public by effectively dealing with a spate of disasters from which the industry continues to recover.

In order to win the Best Corporate Travel Agency – Multi Location award Globetrotter had some stiff competition from companies such as Corporate Traveller, Show Group Enterprises, The Travel Authority and Travel Force. Read the rest of this entry »

Image ImageFlying Singapore Airlines to the Maldives allows for an overnight stop in Singapore and a spot of shopping. The experience starts the night before with online checkin, which allowed Allyson and Jason a seamless checkin process at Perth airport.

With seatback video, lots of leg room and great service they arrived in Singapore fresh and ready for some sightseeing. Their spacious Hotel Fairmont was in a great location with views over the New Marina Bay Sands and next door to Raffles!

On to the Maldives and the Adaaran Meedhupparu resort on Raa Atoll where they arrived after a 40 minute seaplane transfer from Male airport. Here’s what Allyson had to say about their experience on their ‘almost private’ island getaway:
